Would you like to study what emerging technologies such as generative AI mean for learning, work and professional development?
At The Hague University of Applied Sciences, you will contribute to applied research that helps degree programmes and organisations make evidence-informed decisions.
Your main assignment will be within the AI-agility research line. This research line follows how tasks, professional knowledge and responsibilities change when people work with AI. Among other topics, we study how students and early-career professionals use AI, how they verify its outputs, how they learn through their work and how degree programmes can respond responsibly to changes in professional practice. You may also contribute to other research lines and projects in areas such as educational technology, learning analytics and educational innovation.
This position is well suited to a recent research master's graduate who wants to develop as an applied researcher. You will have opportunities to gain experience with a range of methods, work with researchers, lecturers, students and professional partners, and contribute to publications and practical knowledge products.

What will you do?
As a junior researcher, you will support the day-to-day delivery and coordination of applied research projects. You will work under the academic guidance of the associate professor and collaborate with other researchers, student assistants, lecturers, degree programmes and external partners.
Your activities will include:
- translating research questions into feasible research plans, instruments and clear schedules;
- organising and conducting interviews, focus groups, surveys and user studies with students, lecturers and professionals;
- analysing qualitative and quantitative data, combining different sources and carefully reporting what the findings do and do not support;
- documenting research data and decisions carefully and handling ethics, privacy and the use of generative AI responsibly;
- translating findings into reports, publications, presentations and practical knowledge products, while supporting student assistants and related projects where needed.
You will usually work on more than one activity or project at a time. The precise mix will reflect your experience, development goals and project schedules.
What do we expect from you?
You are curious about how technology affects people, learning and organisations in practice. You work carefully, ask questions when evidence or conclusions are uncertain and enjoy conducting research with people from different backgrounds.
We would like to see the following in your CV:
- a completed university master's degree, preferably a research master's, in a field such as pedagogy, developmental psychology, work and organisational psychology, HRM, learning sciences, HCI, or a related discipline;
- demonstrated training or experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- a basic command of statistics and experience with at least one analysis environment, such as R, Python, SPSS or comparable software;
- strong written and spoken Dutch and English. Professional proficiency in Dutch is needed for interviews and collaboration with Dutch degree programmes and professional partners;
- an interest in generative AI and other emerging technologies, and a willingness to explore their possibilities, limitations, and societal and ethical implications;
We do not expect advanced expertise in machine learning or software engineering.
This is what you can expect from us
You will have a varied research role with guidance and room to develop. We offer:
- A one-year appointment of 0.8 to 1.0 FTE (32 to 40 hours per week), with the prospect of extension;
- A salary between € 3.826,54 and € 5.699,76 gross scale 10, per month for a full working week ( under the Dutch Universities of Applied Sciences collective labour agreement).
